FAQ: Yoga Alliance Guidelines Regarding Continuing Ed Hours

As of July 2023, Yoga Alliance no longer distinguishes between contact and non-contact hours. This means that moving forward, RYTs will no longer have a contact (in-person) hours requirement. So, any workshops, whether taken 100% online, in-person, or a combination, will simply count towards an RYT’s overall required training hours for Continuing Education.

What is the difference between contact and non-contact hours?

Question
What is the difference between contact and non-contact hours?

Answer
The Continuing Education requirements have evolved to no longer include a distinction between contact (in-person) and non-contact hours. This means that any hours you accumulate, whether through in-person or online workshops, can count towards your Continuing Education hours. Your 30 training hours can be gathered through the following ways:

  • In-person: students are in the physical presence of the instructor
  • Synchronous: teachers and students gathering at the same time in a virtual space and interacting in real-time
  • Asynchronous: students accessing information at their own pace and interacting over longer periods.

Continuing Education training hours should be taken with a qualified Continuing Education Provider. The hours must be directly related to one of the Educational Categories.
